Rotary Tilting Melting Furnace

Tilting rotary furnace for dross, light scrap and mixed aluminium charges

Overview

What it is and where it works

A refractory-lined drum that rotates while firing and tilts to pour metal and discharge the residue. It is the standard batch melter in secondary plants for aluminium dross, light scrap and other charges with low metallic content, where rotation mixes charge and flux and tilting lets the crew tip out dry salt slag instead of tapping it liquid.

Capacity per batch From about 2 t to 65 t per charge (documented units) Sized to your plant: tell us your target output.
Typical charge
Aluminium dross, light scrap and other residues with metallic aluminium
Slag handling
Tilting discharges dry salt slag, so no liquid slag tapping is needed
Reported vs fixed-axis
About 50% less flux and 25% less energy (published 2014 comparison)
In your plant

Where It Is Used

  • Dross recovery from in-house skimmings
  • Melting light, coated or mixed scrap in secondary smelters
  • Feeding a holding furnace or ingot casting line
  • Batch melting where the charge mix changes often

Buyer questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Why tilting instead of a fixed-axis rotary furnace?

Tilting gives a larger charging opening and lets you pour metal and dump dry salt slag directly, so you do not depend on a small tap hole and liquid slag. Published comparisons also report lower flux and energy use.

Can it recover metal from heavily oxidised dross?

Only the metallic aluminium in the charge can be recovered; oxides cannot be turned back into metal economically. Send us a metal content analysis of your dross so the furnace is sized on real yield.
