Spare Ingot Molds

Custom ingot and sow molds in cast iron, steel, graphite or stainless steel

Overview

What it is and where it works

Replacement molds for casting aluminium ingots, T-bars and sows on casting machines or by hand, designed to your ingot drawing and machine. Material sets thermal resistance, mold life and release behaviour. Thermal fatigue cracking from repeated heating and cooling is the usual end of life, so geometry and material matter as much as price.

Iron / steel
Thermal resistance up to 800 °C, long life, regular release (needs release agent)
Graphite
Very high thermal resistance (no deformation), medium-high life, excellent release
Stainless steel
High resistance and corrosion resistant, very long life, good release with release agent

Where It Is Used

  • Ingot casting machines (chain or carousel)
  • Sow and T-bar casting
  • Manual pouring of returns and remelt ingots

Buyer questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do my molds crack?

Repeated heating and cooling causes thermal fatigue, which starts cracks; mold material, wall design and cooling water practice all affect how soon it happens.

Can you copy my existing mold?

Yes, from a drawing or a sample. We check the critical dimensions and mounting points at the factory before shipment.
