Burners and Combustion Systems

Burners and combustion controls to replace or upgrade firing on existing furnaces

Overview

What it is and where it works

Burners, gas trains and combustion controls to replace worn equipment or upgrade the firing of an existing melting or holding furnace. Upgrades range from new cold-air burners to recuperative, regenerative or oxy-fuel systems that reuse flue gas heat to preheat combustion air, cutting fuel per tonne on reverberatory, rotary and tower furnaces.

Burner types
Cold air, recuperative, regenerative and oxy-fuel
Regenerative burners
Work in pairs, using exhaust heat to preheat combustion air
Documented retrofit
Regenerative pair on a 25.5 t melter targeted about 40% less fuel
In your plant

Where It Is Used

  • Replacing worn burners on reverberatory and holding furnaces
  • Upgrading cold-air firing to recuperative or regenerative
  • Rotary and tower furnace burner replacement
  • Fuel conversion projects (diesel or LPG to natural gas)

We reply in English, Spanish, Italian or Chinese.

  1. Furnace type, capacity and current burner rating
  2. Fuel and supply pressure at the furnace
  3. Current fuel consumption per tonne melted, if measured
  4. Exhaust condition (clean or dusty) and flue path
  5. Local emission limits (NOx) and control system in use

Buyer questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can regenerative burners work on a dirty exhaust?

Dust in the flue gas loads the regenerative beds, so designs with quick bed cleanout are used on melting furnaces. Tell us what you charge so we size the system for it.

How much fuel will I save?

Up to about 40% depending on actual conditions, as one documented retrofit targeted. We need your current consumption per tonne to estimate it for your plant.
