Tap-Out Cones and Plugs

Ceramic fibre cones and cast iron plugs to seal and open furnace tap holes

Overview

What it is and where it works

Vacuum-formed ceramic fibre cones paired with cast iron plugs to seal the tap hole of aluminium melting and holding furnaces and ladles, and to open it for tapping. The cone and plug are made to fit the geometry of your tap block. Cones are consumables, typically replaced at each tap.

Cone material
Vacuum-formed ceramic fibre, non-wetting to molten aluminium
Plug material
Cast iron, made to match the cone and tap block
Use
Cones are generally single use

Buyer questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you match my current cone?

Yes, send a sample or the dimensions of the cone and the tap block. We have the cone formed to that geometry and check the fit before volume production.

Why do cones need to be replaced?

Ceramic fibre cones are generally not reusable after contact with molten metal. Reusing them risks a poor seal and a leak at the tap hole.
