Furnace Structures, Launders and Ladles

Steel furnace shells, launders and transfer ladles built to your drawings

Overview

What it is and where it works

Steelwork and lined vessels that move and contain liquid metal: furnace shells and frames, launders (troughs) that carry metal by gravity from melting to holding furnace or to the casting station, and transfer or pouring ladles. Each launder combines a hot-face refractory, backup insulation and steel casing, sized for metal velocity and the temperature needed at the casting point. Offered as steelwork only or steel plus refractory lining.

Launder build-up
Hot-face refractory, backup insulation, steelwork and dams
Design inputs
Metal velocity, temperature at the casting station and alloy cast
Scope
Steelwork only, or steel plus refractory lining
In your plant

Where It Is Used

  • Metal transfer from melting furnace to holding furnace
  • Launders from holding furnace to ingot caster or casting station
  • Transfer and pouring ladles between furnace and machines
  • Replacement shells and frames for existing furnaces

Buyer questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you supply the lining or only the steelwork?

Both: steelwork only, or steel plus refractory lining. Tell us which lining your plant uses today so the steel fits it.

Can a launder keep metal temperature over a long run?

Insulated and covered launders reduce temperature loss, and heated versions keep it uniform; the design depends on distance to the casting station and flow rate.
